The appearance of cellulite is caused by fibrous bands under your skin that result in the lumpy looking texture. How can lotions and creams remove the appearance of the fibrous bands under your skin? Also, doesn't working out increase the appearance of cellulite as your skin tries to tighten? Or is it possible to even lose weight when you have cellulite? How can you lose fat when there are fatty deposits that have become hardend under your skin?

You're correct that lotions absolutely do not work. Any positive effects are actually the result of rubbing which swells the skin thus hiding the lumps for an hour at most.

Losing weight does reduce the appearance of cellulite, because the less fat you have, the less chance of fat cells bulging to the surface. Working out builds muscle which also reduces the appearance of cellulite.

Exercises such as leg squats and lunges will be great (you don't need to spend too long doing them either).

To get rid of the cellulite:

Dry skin body brush
Drink plenty of water and herbal teas
Basic leg exercises
Cellulite massage
Cut out preservatives in your diet where possible

Ug, don't be so hard on yourself! Even my super toned friends have it, and it's a fact of life for most women. The cause is mainly genetic and cellulite formation is linked to hormones, estrogen to be exact. That is why women gain fat in their thighs, bottom, tummy and the back of their arms when they go through hormonal changes like pregnancy. I've been an aerobic instructor for many years and, while I've always been fairly thin, I've had cellulite on the back of my legs, my bottom and my upper arms for awhile. Two years ago, I decided to get a personal trainer and add weight training to my workout. Wow, what a difference that made! My cellulite is gone gone gone and it was due to the weight training. While the aerobic exercise benefitted my cardiovascular needs, I wasn't getting the tone that I needed. I worked out with my trainer 2 to 3 times a week on weights, an hour each day. Most people don't know this but you will actually burn more calories in an hour of strength training than you will in aerobic activity, if done properly. What's even better is your body continues to burn calories hours after you're done training! I went through a down phase a couple of months ago, and I stopped training and started eating carbs. Guess what came back? The cellulite. If you want to lose it, learn to love fish, especially salmon, get rid of the carbs like bread(keep good carbs like veggies), strength train 2 to 3 times a week, with a trainer if at all possible, if not, find a friend if you don't have the motivation to go on your own. Get on the road and run/walk. Watch your diet, you know when you're going wrong. Do those things, and I promise you that your cellulite will be greatly diminished, if not gone. The bad news? You have to give yourself at least a month of training and diet changes to see visible results. But it is well worth it I can tell you. I have people stop me every day and ask me what I have been doing different, because my body looks so much leaner and tighter. Highly recommended reading? Body for Life by Bill Phillips. It literally changed my ideas about nutrition and taking control of my body. If you need any more tips, let me know. Hope this helps
I am size 8 and have a 25 inch waist. Not too bad for 42!
I didn't ask how to lose weight!!

I know, some people have no clue. Cellulite is actually mainly an issue with loss of elasticity in the connective tissues. It can affect women of any age and any size, in fact most women suffer with cellulite. Obviously the less fat you have, the better it will look, but when you are as slim as you are, there is no point trying to become thinner!

If you are interested, there are some cosmetic treatments that may help. One is known as endermologist, which is lymphatic drainage and the other is mesotherapy, where small amount of a solution are injected into the problem areas and this can improve the look of the cellulite.

The only other suggestions I have are keeping your diet healthy, ie free from foods that cause toxins to build up such as processed foods high in salt and coffee especially. Drink at least 4-8 glass of water per day. Try having cold showers in the morning and dry body brushing to improve circulation. Get plenty of exercise to tone the problem areas and maybe get your hormones checked, as high oestrogen levels can cause cellulite to worsen, which can also happen whilst on the birth control pill if it has a high oestrogen content. HTH : )

Here's what helped me and i lost over 70#… i started out on the elliptical trainer and stair stepper, i couldn't do very much at first but i would do about 10 minutes on each every day, and every few days to week i would add just a couple of minutes (i got up to 65 minutes of each every day to every other day). after i built up a little more confidence, i began taking a dance class, tae kwon do, and pilates. tae kwon do seemed to help the most, since it involved lots of kicking exercises. i also started doing squats, boy my legs hurt! but man oh man they sure toned up so well. i did the squats on the smith machine, just begining with the bar (45#) and building up every couple of weeks. if your going to a gym ask one of the trainers to show you proper technique so that you don't hurt yourself. (by the way, i'm female, if that makes a difference)
I am trying to lose my cellulite…i just started to get it…what i dont get is that i weight 107! but thats besides the point. i am working out and using anti cellulite cream. problem is that i still want to keep my body the same way…for example my hips at 38 inches. what can i do to still keep the 38 inches? and question…does muscle grow under fat? how does cellulite, muscle and fat all work? can u have all three? thanks! i am sooo confused!
Anti-Cellulite

There are various kinds of cellulites. One is found in the muscles of active women like dancers and runners. The hard or solid cellulites are difficult to eliminate, since they are fixed directly to the muscles. But soft cellulites are highly visible and can give a sagging look to the body. But though they are present in bigger muscle areas, they can be easily removed.

Unfortunately, cellulite problems commonly plague women. The problem can begin at an early age of 14 years and the affected areas can become bigger as they age. Women taking birth control pills and new mothers are also highly susceptible. Injured persons are also likely to develop cellulites.

The following healthy living recommendations will help you if you’re trying to lose weight, tone up your muscles, have aspirations of building lean muscle mass, are attempting to get a wash board stomach, or just want to feel better:

*1) Burn more calories then you're consuming everyday and measure your results using the following formula: Calories Consumed minus Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) minus Physical Activity minus the Thermic Effect of Food (TEF). A website that explains this formula in more detail and will help you determine how many calories you need to reach or maintain a certain weight is at http://www.primusweb.com/fitnesspartner/library/weight/calsburned.htm

Get an online, desktop, or cell phone diet and fitness calculator. This will allow you to easily calculate the above formula, set goals, log your daily calorie consumption, and register your physical activities.

Set realistic goals for your ideal body weight. Here are two websites that will calculate a suggested body weight:
Adults: http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.htm
Teens/Children: http://www.kidshealth.org/kid/exercise/weight/bmi.html

It is difficult and unhealthy to lose more than one or two pounds per week. There are 3,500 calories in a pound. If you eat 500 fewer calories per day for a week you will lose one pound. If you burn through exercise 500 more calories per day for a week you will lose one pound.

Here are two articles on how to break through a weight loss plateau:

*2) Eat natural and organic foods found on earth versus something created by a corporation to make money. Eat meals in small portions throughout the day and take a good multi-vitamin supplement.

Do not try fad diets or diet pills. Avoid “High Glycemic Load Carbs” (sugar, pastries, desserts, refined starches such as breads, pasta, refined grains like white rice; high starch vegetables such as potatoes) and drink lots of water. Read this article for more information on high GL Carbs:

*4) Get plenty of sleep. Sleep experts say most adults need between seven and nine hours of sleep each night for optimum performance, health, and safety.

*5) Educate yourself continually on health issues and make a life long commitment to good health. A great free publication is “Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2005”. A reputable test you can take to measure your biological age is at http://realage.com
Look at all areas where you can enhance your health. For example, make improvements in the quality of the air you breathe. Review outdoor air quality forecasts where you live and get an indoor air purifier.

Anti-Cellulite

Chances are it won't go away… Even skinny people have cellulite, it just depends on who you are. For example, Nicole Kidman has cellulite!!!
With diet & exercise is it possible to get rid of cellulite completely? Or is that impossible – when it's there it's staying there for good!?
Anti-Cellulite

This is the best: strength training will greatly diminish the cellulite on your legs. I would go to a gym to define and tone my leg muscles. I have seen this done and I know it works. Remember, you want tone, not bulk. This means you will do low weight, high repetitions. For example, you would only do 15-20lbs on the leg lift, but do three sets of 15. You want to do enough to fatigue the leg muscles. This tears the muscle fibers in your legs. You will rest a day in between leg workouts to allow the leg muscles to rebuild themselves. This is when the results will begin to show. Also, make sure you are getting the right amount of sleep. This is really important when lifting weights.

You also need to lose the fat on your legs by doing cardio at least 30 minutes a day or every other day. This will get your heart rate up and help burn calories.

You must also eat a well balanced diet(fruits and veggies, fish, chicken, turkey, etc). Stay away from fried foods and drink plenty of water.
