any idea why i have them or how to get rid of them?

Cellulite. If you're a woman, chances are nine out of ten that you would have encountered these unsightly lumps on your thighs and buttocks. And you would be itching to get rid of them. You'd be willing to try anything, from pounding the life out of them to creaming them, and occasionally, if you are really desperate, exercising them!
So what is cellulite anyway?
It's fat that looks lumpy and dimpled, and is usually found around the buttocks and thighs – because this is where most women store fat. So if your behind resembles a lumpy mattress more than it does the models strutting around on television, you know why. Not fun, huh? And to add insult to injury, most men don't get cellulite!
What causes cellulite?
Heredity, lack of physical activity, gorging on fried food, coffee and sugar, and drinking less water.
So how do we get rid of this cellulite?
Diet and exercise is the way to go. If you're the type that binge eats during weekends or holidays and then crash diets, STOP NOW. You're not helping your system at all. It's bad for your health and for your well being. And anyway, the worst part about cellulite is that you don't need to be fat to have it. Skinny women get cellulite too! Remember, once you get fat cells, they stay with you through thick and thin, ever the faithful companions! (With friends like these, who needs enemies?) So the only thing that will help is a balanced low-fat diet.
This may be easier said than done, but remember what you learnt ever since you held a book to your nose? Prevention is better than cure. Take it slow and steady. Crash dieting tops the 'worst ways to lose cellulite' list as you don't lose fat, you lose muscle. Instead, cut down on fatty foods.
Bid farewell to french fries, ghee laden aloo ka parathas and butter chicken, and desert the desserts!
Combine your diet with aerobic exercise and weights to tone up muscle. The healthiest and most natural way to diminish cellulite is through diet and a mix of cardiovascular exercise and weight training. Do a minimum of 30 minutes of cardio exercise, three times a week, and 30 minutes of lifting weights or doing resistance work (sweeping the floor, washing clothes – yes, it works!) three times a week and you're all set.
Water Water Everywhere
Another cause of cellulite is inadequate water intake, which prevents the body from getting rid of toxins, and these toxins prevent the breakdown of fat. So drink up – at least 10 to 12 glasses of water a day. If you drink any caffeinated beverage, you need to drink extra water to counteract caffeine's dehydrating effects.
The Brush Off
The skin is the largest organ of the body and other than bathtime, it's completely neglected. Brushing is the best thing you can do for your skin, and it takes just a few minutes everyday.
On dry skin, take a soft body brush or loofah and brush towards the heart:
Up from the legs and arms.
Down from the neck
Across your buttocks.
Dry skin brushing is more beneficial than brushing when in the shower. Don't scrub, massage or rotate the brush on the body; just sweep it across the skin in long smooth strokes. It stimulates blood circulation, tightens the skin and eliminates cellulite. Phew! And if you need any other reason – it feels damned good
I have some fat on my thighs but they’re not dimpled or wrinkled up (i swear)

Everyone is geneitically predisposed to store certain amounts of body fat on his or her body. You can not alter your genetics.
You can slowly (very slowly so as to no trigger an adverse response from your body by leading it to think that you rae in a period of no food so that it stores everything until things get better and food becomes more plentiful…)lower your dialy caloric intake (do not lower it more than 100 callaries per day for a one week period; i.e., if you currently eat 1500 calories each day you would lower your daily intake to 1400 and maintain that daily amount of consumption for seven days, the following wqeek lower it to 1300, etc.)
Work out regularly, at least twice a week doing weight reisitant exercises so as to build muscle (which burns fat even while you are at rest and, muscle takes up less space than fat so you will be smaller…)
Do some form of aerobic/cardio workout for at least 30 minutes per exercise period three to four days per week (walking, jumping rope, biking, hiking, classes, karate, ballet, swimming, skiing, roller blading, etc.)
You did not gain that adipose/fat over night and you will not loose it over night. It will take a life time of work from this point forward to acheive and maintain your body, a healthy eating and life style, etc.
Don't fall prey to the diet pill industry, or to quick fixes as they do not work. Save your hard earned dollars for something else more worthwhile.

I've also seen those pads that you put on the back of your legs while you sleep, does anyone know anything about them?

Here are 3 natural cellulite remedy fixes you may not have heard about that don't cost much and anyone can try.
#1) Coffee Grounds
Rub approximate 1/2 cup of warm brewed coffee grounds into dimpled areas (the heat helps to release the caffeine) and then use plastic wrap to trap the grounds against your skin. Think of this as your own spa caffeine body wrap.
Leave the plastic wrap on for about 10-15 minutes. Since caffeine is a diuretic, it helps shrink skin cells for a tighter look. Effects can last up to 24 hours.
#2) Cranberry Juice
Cranberries are a great source of bioflavonoids, antioxidants that have been proven to help improve circulation (one of the reasons for cellulite is poor circulation). Try drinking one glass of pure cranberry juice a day and you should see a difference in approximately 3 weeks.
(However pure cranberry juice can also be expensive – and strong tasting – so you might want to try watering it down a bit and sipping throughout the day).
This may not be as fast as the coffee grounds method but it will also give you the advantage of more beautiful skin and lots of antioxidant benefits.
#3) Seaweed Baths
Seaweed is an excellent detoxifier and helps to release trapped toxins that are often stored in the fat cells. A seaweed bath can increase blood and lymph flow to circulation-starved areas, break down cellulite, and move the resultant waste out of your body.
Take a sheet of seaweed (you can find seaweed at your local grocery store usually in the health food section), break it up and add it to your bathwater. Soak at least 10 – 15 minutes.
While it may not be as effective, this is still an excellent substitute for those expensive seaweed baths you get at the spa.
So those are three ways to start losing cellulite in a natural way.

what does exercise do? It burns of excess fat and tones the cellulite damaged area. things to remember when exercising:
-pick exercises that are specific to your cellulite problem area. otherwise you could be wasting your time
-focus primarily on cardiovascular exercises while executing anaerobic exercises to tone the area
-three 30min sessions per week is enough to see results but more is quicker.
Your diet is one of the biggest contributer to people cellulite. Cellulite is caused by the fat cells in the cellulite area expanding because your diet contains too much saturated fat and toxins. These make the cells expand and clump together causing the dimpled effect on the skin. couple of diet tips:
-drink more water to flush out toxins
-try not to drink alcohol
-remove as saturated fat from your diet as possible and foods that are high in toxins
-try not to eat foods that are highly processed and high in sugar
-eat more fresh fruit and vegeatbles
What does the cellulite cream do? The cellulite has damaged your skins connective tissue and cell structure. So the body tries to repair itself but can’t anywhere enough of the specific nutrients needed to repair the problem. A good cellulite supplies the nutrients desperately needed. There are a lot of creams on the market and it’s hard to find the best one. Probably the best cream is from revitol their cream has great reputation of working successfully. That have a good customer service team. Good prices. But the best part is that it works. It’s highly recommended you can find it here http://naturalskincaretreatments.com/
good luck

'Creams may increase blood flow to the cellulite-ridden area and help break up the fat, but it won't get rid of it,' adds Professor Sanders. He suggests that the negative perception of cellulite was created by the cosmetic and slimming industries to make women feel insecure about their bodies so that they'll spend more money on products.
Moderate exercise combined with sensible nutrition and adequate rest is the solution
the best exercises are based on a good resistance programme, such as yoga, Pilates, conventional strength training or a combination of all three. 'The goal is to isolate the muscles and build up lean tissue in both your big and small muscles. The reasoning behind this is that muscles require more energy than fat to function, so increasing your lean tissue raises your metabolic rate (the speed at which you burn calories). As a result you burn more body fat.Futhermore, even when your muscles are at rest, they require fuel to recover from exertion. So the more muscle you have, the more fuel you need – and the more calories you burn.
To build up lean tissue do two or three total body resistance workouts a week.

To get rid of it you need to lose body fat and improve your muscle tone with exercise. Liposuction is one way to do this, but I suggest a sensible eating plan, regular exercise — including weight training — and a little patience. This isn't as sexy or as appealing as taking a pill or sitting in a bath (or any of the other wacky treatments out there!) but it's the only way you'll see improvements short of surgery.

It is genetic in some people, but exercising can reduce its visibility.
Cellulite is fat cells pushing through your skin, if you develop the muscle underneath the fat, it will smooth out the fat and you'll lose the dimpled look.
I'd recommend squats, walking lunges and running for the most efficient way to reduce cellulite.
